Rubén presented the most innovative aspects and results of the FET-OPEN 863170 project ARTIBLED
Rubén presented the most innovative aspects and results of the FET-OPEN 863170 project ARTIBLED (Engineered ARTIficial proteins for Biological Light-Emitting Diodes) at the Research meets Industry event organized by the European Innovation Council. We hope that this event will help us to further exploit our ideas in the near future.

Congratulations to Elisa and Luca for their new paper published in Advanced Photonics Research !!!
BODIPY‐Pt‐Porphyrins Polyads for Efficient Near‐Infrared Light‐Emitting Electrochemical Cells
In this work, they and our colleagues from U. Crete have described the synthesis, characterization and implementation in NIR light emitting electrochemical cells of a series of BODIPY-Pt-porphyrin polyads. They described how the amount of fluorine atoms in the emitters, the efficiency of the intramolecular host-guest system, and the ionic conductivity influence the device performances towards highly efficient NIR sources.

Scientific Award Ateneo
Rubén has been awarded with the V scientific award Ateneo!!! The jury has highlighted the work of our team in sustainable technologies for lighting and photovoltaic as well as the innovative approaches to merge different research fields. Congratulations to all of us!

Success in the last MSCA individual fellowship!!
Dr. Nieddu will join us next September as MSCA fellow. He will work on designing a new familiy of bio-hybrid LEDs with hybrid fluorescent proteins nanoparticles. We are very happy to work with him very soon!!

Florian Sedlmaier joins our team as a Technical Assistant
We are very pleased to welcome a new and experienced colleague.
Welcome Florian!

On 17.02.2021, part of the laboratories at the Chair of Biogenic Functional Materials were put into operation.
Prof. Dr. Costa and his team are very pleased to be able to start their work in the newly designed laboratories.

Quo Vadis Biogenic Phosphors?
White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) consist of a blue-light emitting chip that is covered with yellow-emitting inorganic phosphors based on rare-earth or toxic materials that are regulated by a few countries. Indeed, they are one of the most critical bottlenecks when trying to ensure the sustainable development of WLEDs.

Prof Costa: Cheers to 25 Years of Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells
Prof Rubén Costa, head of the chair Biogenic Functional Materials at TUM Campus Straubing, is editor of the special issue in Advanced Functional Materials to celebrate the 25th year of the LEC technology.

Prof. Costa selected as Numerary Member of the Young Academy Spain
The Global Young Academy consists of 200 young academic leaders between 30 to 40 years old and involves more than 40 National Young Academies spread all around the world. The Global Young Academy is devoted to provide a voice to young scientists over the six continents, playing a key role in international, interdisciplinary, and inter-generational actions that provide a global impact on the development of our society.
